El Quijote, the masterpiece of Miguel de Cervantes and of literature in Spanish, can now be read fully in Hindi, which actually is the fourth most spoken language in the world. The Indian academic Vibha Maurya has invested 10 years in translating the majestic work and make it "as close as possible," according to a piece recently published by EFE.
The professor of Hispanic Studies at the University of Delhi and member of the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language (RAE) translated the first part of the adventures of the Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote in 2005 and ten years later completed the second, Maurya said during the presentation held recently in New Delhi.
He said this is the first complete and direct translation from Spanish and not from English as had happened so far. He also noted that is written in current Hindi and not the one spoken on the seventeenth century.
El Quijote (1605 and 1615), is one of the most translated books in the world (more than 50 languages), and most have influenced the modern literature. An indispensable classic consisting of two parts and the one which consecrated Miguel de Cervantes as one of the greatest writers ever.
This book tells the adventures and misadventures of the Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote, a knight blinded by an idealized love for her maid (Dulcinea) and the dementia he carries on after devouring novels of chivalry that make him believes he is a wandering hero medieval. His squire, Sancho Panza tries to bring sanity, so their diatribes symbolize the struggle between a prudent realism and a bluntly, alienated idealism.
Don Quixote was the first work that demystified the chivalrous and courteous tradition giving it a satirical and burlesque treatment. Thus, provided the formula of realism as parody and mockery of fantasy and social criticism as well. He also invented the polyphonic novel, due it interprets reality from several points of view.
Also converges on this masterpieces all genres and narrative techniques which eventually are up parodied. All this stuff makes Don Quixote wander between reality and grotesque distortion. Therefore, in Don Quixote and as often happens in real life, things are not what they seem.

El Quijote, la obra cumbre de Miguel de Cervantes y de la literatura en español, ya puede leerse al completo en hindi, el que es ahora mismo el cuarto idioma más hablado en el mundo. La académica india Vibha Maurya ha invertido 10 años en traducir la majestuosa obra y hacerla “lo más cercana posible”, según reza una noticia publicada recientemente por la Agencia EFE.
La profesora de estudios hispánicos de la Universidad de Delhi y miembro de la Real Academia de la lengua Española (RAE) tradujo la primera parte de las aventuras del ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha en 2005 y diez años más tarde concluyó la segunda, según comentó Maurya durante la presentación acontecida en Nueva Delhi.
Aseguró que ésta es la primera traducción completa y directa del español y no del inglés como había ocurrido hasta ahora. También puntualizó que está escrito en hindi actual y no el del siglo XVII.

La obra narra las aventuras y desventuras del ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha, un caballero andante cegado por un amor idealizado hacia su doncella (Dulcinea del Toboso) y la demencia que le acompaña tras devorar novelas de caballería que le hacen creerse un héroe andante medieval. Su escudero, Sancho Panza intenta poner cordura, por lo que sus diatribas simbolizan la pugna entre el realismo prudente y el idealismo sin ambages, enajenado.
El Quijote fue la primera obra que desmitificó la tradición caballeresca y cortés dado el tratamiento satírico y burlesco de la misma. Así, aportó la fórmula del realismo como parodia y burla de lo fantástico y crítica social. También inventó la novela polifónica, dado que interpreta la realidad desde varios puntos de vista.
Asimismo, en esta genial obra, convergen todo tipo de géneros y técnicas narrativas que hasta son parodiadas. Todo ello hace que El Quijote deambule entre la realidad y su deformación grotesca. Por todo ello, en El Quijote y como ocurre muchas veces en la vida misma, las cosas no son lo que parecen.
